KATAN ARCHIVES - The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

The KATAN ARCHIVES of the Cleveland Center for Research in Child Development in UNIVERSITY CIRCLE includes correspondence with pioneer psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, a signed picture of him, and about 160 letters from his daughter, Anna Freud, as well as signed first editions of books such as The Ego and the Mechanisms of Defense by Anna Freud. Housed in the HANNA PERKINS SCHOOL at the CLEVELAND CENTER FOR RESEARCH IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT, the archives represents about 2,000 books and journals in both German and English and the personal and professional papers of psychoanalysts MAURITS KATAN† and ANNY KATAN†. Much of the material was never published, such as papers delivered in Cleveland by Anna Freud and lectures and case discussions by Maurits Katan. In 1993 Annemarie Angrist, the Katans' daughter, donated the collection to the center, which was founded by Dr. Anny Katan, Robert A. Furman, and Eleanor Hosley (1960). Katan also founded the Hanna Perkins School (1951).
