SCHULTE, LAURETTA (OBERLE) - The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

SCHULTE, LAURETTA (OBERLE), (24 Jan. 1902-3 Jan. 1993), licensed funeral director for half a century, was born in Cleveland, the daughter of John and Mary O'Hearn Oberle. After attending Western Reserve University, she worked in the legal and engineering departments at General Electric's NELA PARK complex. Interested in politics, Oberle was executive secretary to LEONARD HANNA, JR.† who actively campaigned for Republican Herbert Hoover during his 1928 presidential campaign, and later she helped DAVID INGALLS, SR.†, who supported Ohio Senator Robert Taft in his quest for the 1952 Republican presidential nomination. Nine years after her marriage to Joseph C. Schulte 30 Nov. 1933, she and her husband established the Joseph C. Schulte Funeral Home at 4090 Mayfield Rd., SOUTH EUCLID and by 1957 they had a second operation at 5244 Mayfield Rd. in LYNDHURST. In the meantime, she obtained her funeral director license from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and became vice president of the company. Lauretta Schulte died at her home in Chester Township and was buried at All Souls Cemetery. She was survived by her husband and three brothers; there apparently were no children.
