OSIKA, CHARLOTTE "Lottie" (3 Dec. 1916-1 Dec. 1993) was an officer for The Union of Poles in America and secretary of Branch # 71 who, during her 50 year association, increased membership and helped the organization prosper.
Born to Anthony and Valerie Osika, Lottie sold U.S. War Bonds during WORLD WAR II and raised money for the American Red Cross and Polish-American aid for Poland.
Osika was active in the Ohio Division of the Polish American Congress, serving as a delegate to several state conventions. Osika was elected to the Union's board of directors in 1939. In 1942 she became its youngest elected national vice president, a post she held until her 1990 retirement when the National Convention named her an Honorary Vice President.
For many years Osika Chaired the Cleveland based Booster committee and served as its coordinator and tour director for the entire Union. She was very active in the Polonia and served the Ohio Division of the Polish American Congress. During the early 1970s Osika had raised money for the Institute of Blind Children of Laski, Poland, and also helped raise money for the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pa. Osika was honored by the Union of Poles in 1974, 1978, and 1982 for her years of service.
Osika organized Cleveland Chapter 25 of the Ladies Auxiliary of Orchard Lake Seminary, Orchard Lake, Mich and served as its first and only president and until the time of her death.
Osika remained single, lived in GARFIELD HEIGHTS and is buried in CALVARY CEMETERY.
