NEWMARKER, HOWARD L. (15 June 1928-23 Jan. 1993), a commercial photographer who specialized in pictures of Cleveland, was born here, the son of Albert and Esther Rosenbaum Newmarker. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School, attended Ohio University, and then served in the Marine Corps 1946-48. In 1951 Newmarker founded the Howard Studio's commercial photography business in Cleveland, and for 25 years he provided photographic services for advertising agencies and industrial concerns. He began Ohio Natural Color Card Co. as a division of Howard in 1957, taking pictures of Cleveland area scenes, including colleges, museums and public buildings, for color postcards, which were distributed in department stores, drugstores, and gift shops. He produced similar cards for Lorain, Akron, Youngstown, Ashtabula, and other local communities. Newmarker received the degree of master of photography from the Professional Photographers of America in 1959. In 1977 he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to begin a new career in videotaping travelogues for use by hotels and travel agents in the area. Utilizing his earlier experience in photographing Cleveland landmarks, Newmarker provided information about local attractions that would appeal to tourists.
Newmarker married Mary Ann Morris 20 Dec. 1951 in Youngstown, and they had three children, Joan Marsh of Bath, OH, Judy Winnegar of Santa Fe, and David of LYNDHURST. He died in Santa Fe and was returned to Cleveland to be buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
