MOLYNEAUX, JOSEPH B. (1 Jan. 1840-23 Apr. 1925), volunteer Civil War officer and secretary of the Cuyahoga County Soldiers & Sailors Monument Commission, was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., son of Thomas and Margaret (Twamley) Molyneaux. He came to Cleveland before the CIVIL WAR, and became a printer. He enlisted as a private in the 7TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT in the spring of 1861 for 3 months' service. He reenlisted with the 7th OVI for 3 years' service and was promoted to captain on 1 Sept. 1862. At the Battle of Cedar Mountain, he was twice wounded and had 2 horses shot out from under him (9 Aug. 1862), taking command of the regiment after all senior officers were either wounded or killed. He was mustered out as a lieutenant because of disability on 31 Dec. 1863.
Once recovered from his wounds, Molyneaux accepted a commission as captain of Co. E, 150th OVI in May 1864. He served in the defenses of Washington, D.C. in the summer of 1864 and was mustered out in Cleveland in August of that year. After the war, he returned to the printing business and served as deputy Cuyahoga County recorder, as assistant postmaster, and on the Board of Equalization & Assessment. He served on the Cuyahoga County Soldiers & Sailors Monument Commission from 1894-1925. Molyneaux married Henrietta A. Lyon in 1863. He was survived by her and their 3 sons: Wm. V., Robt. T., and Raymond L. Molyneaux is buried in WOODLAND CEMETERY.
