84TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT - The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

The 84TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT, organized at Camp Chase in Columbus, OH, in May and June 1862, contained 2 companies from Cleveland during its 3 months of service in the CIVIL WAR. Companies D and E were recruited by the CLEVELAND GRAYS. The regiment was ordered to Cumberland, MD, on 11 June 1862, where it became part of the Railroad District Dept. of the Mountains until July 1862. Its operations and actions there included provost duty, after which it was assigned to the 8th Army Corps, Middle Dept., until Sept. The regiment was then sent to Columbus and mustered out at Camp Chase on 14 Oct. Losses were listed as 14 men killed by disease.
