CORCORAN, MICHAEL (1848-3 Oct. 1919), Congressional Medal of Honor recipient for service rendered during the Indian wars, was born in Philadelphia, Pa. Corporal Corcoran, a member of the 8th U.S. Calvary operating out of Camp Whipple, Arizona, was among those who engaged a band of Indians between the Aqua Fria and Rio Verde rivers on 25 Aug. 1869. He received the Medal of Honor 3 March 1870 for "gallantry in action" during the skirmish.
After military service, Corcoran resided in Johnstown, Pa., moving to Cleveland after the 1889 flood. Residing in the city, he earned a living as a railroad worker while raising a family. Corcoran died in Cleveland and was buried at CALVARY CEMETERY.
