177TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT - The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

The 177TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT, 1864-65, was organized at Camp Cleveland, Ohio (see CIVIL WAR CAMPS IN CLEVELAND), for 1 year's service in the CIVIL WAR on 9 Oct. 1864. The 177th was transported to Nashville, then to Tullahoma, TN, for duty until Nov. 1864. Between Oct.-Dec. 1864, it was attached to the Defenses of the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad, Dept. of the Cumberland. From Dec. 1864-Jan. 1865, it was attached to the 2d Brigade, 4th Div., 20th Army Corps. From Jan.-June 1865, the regiment was assigned to the 2d Brigade, 3d Div., 23d Army Corps, Army of the Ohio, Dept. of North Carolina. It was mustered out at Greensboro, NC, 24 June 1865. The 177th was discharged and paid off at Camp Cleveland on 7 July 1865. Losses were stated as 2 enlisted men dead from hostile causes and 82 from disease.
