KIDD, ISAAC CAMPBELL (26 Mar. 1884-7 Dec. 1941), senior officer on board the battleship U.S.S. Arizona when it was attacked and sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, was born in Cleveland, the son of Isaac and Jemima (Campbell) Kidd. He graduated from West High School in 1902, then from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1906. Kidd's first service was aboard the U.S.S. Columbia during the Panama Expedition in 1906. Further assignments took him on 6 other ships until 1925, when he served as executive officer of the U.S.S. Utah. His first command came the following year aboard the U.S.S. Vega. Kidd was named commanding officer of the Arizona in 1936. When the Arizona was attacked, Kidd, as commander, Battleship Div. I, went to the bridge, taking charge until the ship was hit and sunk. He and much of his crew were killed. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor; a destroyer, the U.S.S. Kidd, and the Navy's Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd Computer Ctr. in BRATENAHL, Ohio, were named in his honor.
In 1911, Kidd married Inez Nellie Gillmore of LAKEWOOD, Ohio. They had 2 children: Nereide and Isaac.
