HADDEN, MARIANNE ELISABETH MILLIKIN (18 Dec. 1896-2 Sept. 1992) was among the early members of the Mundane Club (a women's literary society), the Maternal Health Association, and the INTOWN CLUB. Hadden was born in Cleveland to Dr. Benjamin Love Millikin and Julia Walworth Severance and grew up next door to the JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER† home on EUCLID AVE.. Her father served as dean of the Western Reserve University Medical School (1900-12); her uncle was JOHN LONG SEVERANCE†. Educated at Froebel and LAUREL SCHOOLs, Hadden graduated from Wells College in 1917. She returned to Cleveland and performed civilian relief work during WORLD WAR I. On 7 Jan. 1922 she married lawyer John Alexander Hadden; they had 3 children, John, Jr., Alexander H., and Elisabeth Severance. The Haddens lived on Delamere Dr. and Fairmount Blvd., CLEVELAND HEIGHTS. She served organizations such as the Maternal Health Association (later Planned Parenthood of Greater Cleveland), as trustee from 1934 until 1958, helping to instigate the Christmas Mart fundraiser. Hadden financially supported the Cleveland Center for Child Development, the MUSICAL ARTS ASSOCIATION, the CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART, and the Medical School of CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY. She died in Cleveland and was buried at LAKE VIEW CEMETERY.
