FEMINISTS FOR LIFE, OHIO CHAPTER - The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

FEMINISTS FOR LIFE, OHIO CHAPTER, was founded in 1989 to promote gender equality for women but oppose such things as abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty. The organization is also concerned with issues such as family leave, child care, sexual harassment, and abuse. The organization's most significant accomplishment has been the initiation of "common ground" discussion with pro-choice groups. The organization has also undertaken rallies, letter-writing campaigns, and circulated petitions. In 1993 the Ohio Chapter had about 150 members. The chapter has five sectors and one-third of the state's membership is in the Greater Cleveland Sector. Jean E. Graham of Lakewood was the local coordinator in 1994. The national organization was established in 1972; it has about 5,000 members and is based in Kansas City.
