CLEVELAND CHAMBER SYMPHONY - The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History

CLEVELAND CHAMBER SYMPHONY is a professional orchestra-in-residence at CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY devoted to the performance of new music, along with neglected masterworks of the past. Under Music Director Edwin London, professor at CSU, the orchestra presents a series of 6 to 8 free public concerts each year in Drinko Recital Hall in CSU's Music and Communication Bldg., with frequent repeat performances throughout the greater Cleveland area. Established in 1980, CCS has premiered over 100 works; performed on prestigious concert series, including those at Harvard and Brigham Young Universities; sponsored the award-winning festival, Sound Encounters: The Festival; provided professional performance opportunities for over 145 young composers at semi-annual concerts of New Music by Young and Emerging Composers; and released the first two CDs in its critically acclaimed series, Sound Encounters. In recognition of its commitment to new American music, the orchestra has received numerous major national awards, including those from the American Music Center, American Composers Alliance, ASCAP, and the American Symphony Orchestra League.
